Ana was raised by her grandparents after her parents left to find work elsewhere. They sent back occasional letters and money to help raise her and get her schooling and such but one day the payments and the letters stopped coming and that was the only notice they ever got that her parents had died. This didn’t bother her much because she never really knew them and her Papa and Baba brought her up as well as could be expected. They also brought her up fairly sheltered, if self sufficient. The compound was isolated, private, and consisted mostly of older dwarrow, a sort of working retirement community.

Ana was one of only seven children who lived there and was neither the oldest nor the youngest but she received enough attention to not get a complex from it. There was no real tragedy in her life other the utter tranquility of it all, at least for dwarves. She got into a lot of trouble but was never really punished harshly no matter what she did, everyone assuming it was a nurturing error not her nature to be cruel and mischievous. Unfortunately for them they were wrong and Ana grew up with a chaotic affiliation.

Her greatest joy in life is being triumphant, in an argument or battle or in her craft. Her greatest fear is being stifled and forced into playing a roll, or being repressed. She is creative and innovative, often using items for things that are not their original purpose. She’s also impatient, wanting to cut corners wherever possible and skirting rules if it means getting her way faster.

She enjoys toeing the line just to see what sort of reaction she will get and if she can use that reaction for her own gains. She isn’t ruthless or sadistic though, and has a bendy moral code all her own. She doesn’t like introspection or questioning her own motives and is therefore easily led if it’s done subtly enough. She does however hold lasting grudges and is not soon to forgive though she has a bad habit of accidentally forgetting past transgressions since there happen to be a lot of them. She keeps a small journal of things that tick her off or people who she can use to get favors from for future reference.

Her favorite craft is woodcarving and design but she’s abysmal at it so she focuses her efforts on things she’s good at, like hard labor and her stonesense. It leaves her frustrated most of the time, making her ornery and lashing out with sarcasm. This is how she came to discover things about herself that she’s mostly fine being miserable as long as she's the one making herself miserable. the moment someone else claims responsibility for it she will destroy them. Overall she feels good about herself but she also has a lot of internalized negativity with no real outlet for it except at herself.

She doesn’t like upsetting people for real, she lets them think she’s kidding when she speaks her mind and it offends someone. She’s not in the business of making enemies and likes to have allies because everything has something that could some in handy. She doesn’t want to alienate people but she has a tendency to do so anyway even when she’s not actively hiding her real feelings, she just has an abrasive personality that takes some getting used to.

As a result of all of this she doesn’t have many close friends and the ones she has she hardly sees. They keep in touch through letters and packages but she holds them in higher regard than they hold her. She builds people up in her head and thinks that she’s being a better friend than she actually is. To her small gestures mean the most, little things like a handmade gift or a secret or choosing her company over something else. She forms deeply loyal connections but most people never realise they have her devotion. Because she’s not good at expressing herself when she's being heartfelt and sincere.

At the compound she learned how to wield a weapon of her choosing, since she would one day have to venture out into the world and most dwarrows have some weapons training. She chose the Glaive because it dealt the most damage and she couldn’t abide using something that caused less even if it would be faster and easier to wield. This is also why she has an affinity for heavy armor, not wanting to sacrifice any protection she could possibly get.

To her, magic is far too intangible a skill to have any real use. It's more of a flashy party trick than a weapon in her opinion. She doesn’t quite look down on magic users but they aren’t quite warriors in her mind, she views them like she views archers, a different, maybe necessary, but less hands-on, in the fray sort of fighters. She also has trouble getting magic to work for her so that bitterness might factor into her opinion of them.

Her hobbies include meditation and whatever this world has equivalent to taichi. She likes dawn, fruit, a light misting rain, and pearls. She is an early riser, a tea drinker, and uses her spare time with her hands doing busy work carving all wooden figures which she isn’t very good at but she likes to do. When she isn’t meditating she is in constant motion, restless leg syndrome or fidgeting, or tapping out a rhythm. She doesn’t think much of her appearance, it’s never mattered to her.
